The Week Santa Arrives

This week has been a fun week taking part in pub quizes, christmas drinks and a few BBQs. However still does not feel like christmas yet, i think the weather has something to do with it especially when the UK is white over with snow.  Will try and make a visit to sit on santas knee and make a couple of wishes for 2010.

Santa did visit me though with a gift from mum and dad and the other half - being the twin sister - thanks alot guys.

Been catching up with all the guys back in blighty! Miss you all lots and lots at the mo guys.  Here are some pics of me this week in Christchurch, some beautiful days in the sun.   Work still keeping busy with lots of overseas visitors flocking to spend there christmas holidays in the sun! Good fun wonder if the beach will be on the cards again?

Arthurs Pass NP

What a week, have had a few additinal days off this week due to lack of business. So i thought i would make the most of it.  First of all joining a party bus around the city with one of my flatmates and our property agent. Turned out to be a very drunken affair, the seat where i was sitting on the bus window fell out putting a whole new meaning to AC on transport.  Then ended up at the Casino tables playing roulette with a group of complete strangers and a Canadian guy who i met earlier in the night by this time i was on 6am. Exchanged numbers but not holding out for anything as he is only passing through the city on holidays.  Following on from the Casino i rushed home and picked up my backpack and just made it on the 7am departure to Arthurs Pass National Park. This is located in the Southern Alps and is home to the first YHA ever built in NZ!!  Slept most of the way due to no sleep the night prior. On arrival to Arthurs Pass it was raining heavily it continued to do this the entire weekend : ( but hey the waterfall walks were some of the best i have seen enhanced by the amount of rainfall they have had in the last week.  Some awesome tramping and trekking to be had in this area so would like to return in better weather for sure.  Some really cool parrots called Keas! Will eat mostly anything and they like destroying rubber especially from bikes, cars and hiking boots so be aware!!! Met some awesome people from Slovenia, France, Switzerland some of which are v. experienced trampers and some of whom are cycling around NZ!!
Just about dried off from all the rain back in Christchurch where the sun is out in its glory.

Sumner in the Summer

Sumner in the summer is beautiful! Spent the day exploring the beach with Sunmi and Inhoi my two korean flatmates. Finished the day with a pukka BBQ at the house. Christmas Card sent to the parents today via air-mail hope you get it in time :)

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells

Christchurch is getting into the festive spirit this week with Hagley Park covered with huge christmas trees, carol singers and fireworks! Very impressive to watch. Had a random week met an ex-colleague from Scotland in the hotel where i currently work, Meredith not seen her for about six years i think she was just as shocked as me, turns out she used to work with the same guy i now do!!
James my old flatmate arrives in Christchurch tomorrow to continue with his professional cycling around the globe hope to catch up with him!!!
The flat dynamics are still going well, however Nanoko has to leave to go back to Japan so we will be getting a new roomie in the next few days! Caught a glipse of Ben Harper and his family this week seem great people and of course awesome music! No time for sight seeing this week but will make up for it next week Hamner Springs here we come :)

The Sun is Shining

Well New Zealands sun is out in glory over the last week the weather has been glorious!! I have been out on my bike every day checking out the baby ducklings on the pond! :) Got loads of hours at work this week so well chuffed with that to save some pennies!! Also put a request in for the 14th/15th/16th January off for one of Australia/New Zealands biggest festivals called Big Day Out, will hopefully be given the time off :) head lining are Muse awesome band. Also popped into flight centre to look at my return trip home to England. Looking at stops on the way back in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Bombay, Dubai and then arriving into Heathrow. Will hope to be back home by Christmas next year! But who knows. Will not tell the folks though would like to suprise them!! Having a flat BBQ tomorrow evening which will be awesome with the landlady! Funny one that one! But any excuse for a few glasses of wine and a couple of kebabs. Christmas decorations are slowly going up around the city preparing for another Christmas in the sun!! Kinda miss the cold, snowy ones to be honest. Just not the same when its 30 degrees.

Emmas Adventures NZ

I have now been in New Zealand for just over two weeks!! What can i say it is completely different to Oz! Basing myself in Christchurch for the next few months, pretty quiet city but can certainly rock when it wants to. This is good for me so it means i can save some money. Working in a boutique 5* hotel in the city!! Very lush green surroundings and also has a nice beach called Sumner! Kinda reminds me of St Kilda in Melbourne well that kind of atmosphere.

Have moved into a flat last week with six other people, 3 guys and 3 girls a real varied bunch actually we have English, Korean and Japanese in the group which makes meal times absolutley awesome. Really getting into Asian food at the moment!!

Weather has remained good since i arrived with only a couple of days of rain which is great as i bought myself a bike when i arrived in New Zealand so i can save myself some $$$ on public transport. Travelled on the gondala today with Tyler a Canadian who i travelled with for a while in Oz! What amazing view from the top, simply awesome. Had a busy few days visiting the Canterbury Royal Show and the Canterbury Races with some of the flatmates, was great opportunity to see a sheep shearing contest, tractor racing, wood chopping and get this a Shetland Pony Grand National run by 9-13 year olds!!!
